Michele (Mick) FRANCETICH passed away 19 May 2019

Mick joined the Australian Regular Army on 4 July 1966 and was discharged on 3 July 1972.

After the normal three-month stint at 1 Recruit Training Battalion, Mick was posted to RAEME Training Centre at Bandiana and was trained as a Radio Mechanic. In January 1968 he was posted to 2 Base Workshop at Moorebank, NSW.

He was posted to C Squadron Section 1st Armoured Regiment LAD on 13 January 1969 in South Vietnam. This was subsequently re-designated as B Squadron Section 1st Armoured Regiment on 11 February 1969. As the Squadron’s only radio mechanic, he was crucial as a member of the unit; was always very cheerful and willing to help. Mick was a quiet achiever, knowledgeable, modest and competent in his chosen field.

Whilst at Nui Dat Mick fancied himself as a ‘go kart’ driver but it seems he was much, much better at fixing radios.

Mick remained in Vietnam until 14 January 1970 when he was posted to 3 Base Workshop in Melbourne where he stayed until he elected discharge on 3 July 1972.

May he rest in peace in the green fields beyond.
