Colin was born on 3 March 1938 and joined the army on 29 April 1955 at 17 years of age. After recruit training (at Kapooka) Colin was posted to the 1st Armoured Regiment as a tank driver (Centurion) – perhaps not a typical tank driver at a height of 6 foot 3 inches!
Colin had a major motor bike accident and spent around 18 months in hospital recuperating. No longer able to drive, Colin spent some time in gunnery before being retrained as a cook.
Colin was discharged in Apr 1958. Colin had an impact on many he met often being described as a very gentle giant. In Civilian Street Colin worked in the prison system and was highly regarded.
In later years Colin undertook research to locate all of the centurions that had been sold in Australia. Colin was also heavily involved in the development of the Vietnam Veterans Museum at Phillip Island in Victoria.
May he rest in peace in the greenfields beyond.
