B Squadron

11 February 1969 - 23 December 1969 

6 November 1969:

Elements SHQ plus one troop plus supporting elements continued recce and ambush ops in AO Sabot.  Two troops remained in AO Grace op con to 5RAR.

 

At 1115hrs,

2 Troop located a mine consisting of two 105mm HE [rounds] connected to bamboo switch.  Mine was destroyed. 

 

7 November 1969:

Elements SHQ plus one troop plus supporting elements continued recce and ambush ops in AO Sabot.  Two troops remained in AO Grace op con to 5RAR. 

 

8 November 1969:

As above.  At 0922hrs, Tango Force received RPG and SA fire.  Found mortar base plate area with fresh tracks leading to Nui Nhan.

 

9 November 1969:

Elements SHQ plus one troop plus supporting elements continued recce and ambush ops in AO Sabot.  Two troops remained in AO Grace op con to 5RAR. One troop Ready Reaction Force standby.  Elements deployed to Horseshoe.

 

At 0030hrs,

4 Troop with RRF deployed to Long Dien; returned to Nui Dat at 0800hrs.

 

At 1040hrs,

Four members of unit were wounded when a booby trap was detonated near bunker 16 in Dat Do.  The four WIA were dusted off to 1 Aust Field Hosp.

 

10 November 1969:

Elements SHQ, one troop plus supporting elements returned to 1 ATF Base from recce and ambush ops in AO Sabot.  Two troops remained in AO Grace op con 5RAR.  Elements remained at Horseshoe.  At 1330hrs, 4 Troop deployed on Reaction on sighting of VC.  Nil sighting or contact by 4 Troop, returned 1700hrs.

 

11 November 1969:

14 November 1969:

B Sqn (-) remains at 1ATF base.  One troop returned to 1ATF base from ops with 124 RF Company.  Two troops remained in AO Grace op con to 5RAR.  Elements remained at the Horseshoe.  One troop Ready Reaction Force standby.

 

At 1150hrs,

2 Troop, whilst supporting RF ops, were engaged by SA fire and sustained negative casualties.

 

At 1550hrs:

2 Troop found roadblock on Route 326 which was cleared by mini-team.  The block was made from brush and contained grenade fragments and mine marker sign.  Route 

 

15 November 1969:

B Sqn (-) remains at 1ATF base.  One troop returned to 1ATF base from ops with 124 RF Company.  Two troops remained in AO Grace op con to 5RAR.  Elements remained at the Horseshoe.  One troop Ready Reaction Force standby. 

 

16 November 1969:

B Sqn (-) remains at 1ATF base. Two troops remained in AO Grace op con to 5RAR.  Elements remained at the Horseshoe.  One troop Ready Reaction Force standby. At 0945hrs, 9 Platoon C Company 5RAR, contacted 6--12 enemy in a bunker system. Enemy withdrew south when 8 Platoon, supported by tanks (1 Troop) assaulted from the north.  Results: one Aust KIA; two Aust WIA.  Enemy casualties unknown. 

 

17 November 1969:

B Sqn (-) remains at 1ATF base.  Two troops remained in AO Grace op con to 5RAR. Elements remained at the Horseshoe. One troop Ready Reaction Force standby. 

 

18 November 1969:

19 November 1969:

At 1130hrs 90 RF Platoon contacted 15--20 enemy in bunkers.  Enemy withdrew north west when bunkers were assaulted by tanks (4 Troop), APCs and 90 RF Platoon.  Results: four RF WIA; four VC KIA (BC); one AK 47, one 75mm RCL round, 150lb rice, quantity of documents CIA.

 

20 November 1969:

B Sqn (-) remains at 1ATF base.  Two troops remained in AO Grace op con to 5RAR. Elements remained at the Horseshoe. One troop Ready Reaction Force standby. 

 

21 November 1969:

22 November 1969:

B Sqn (-) remains at 1ATF base.  Two troops remained in AO Grace op con to 5RAR. Elements remained at the Horseshoe.  One troop supported land clearing ops in Long Green.  One troop Ready Reaction Force standby. 

 

23-26 November 1969:

27 November 1969:

B Sqn (-) remains at 1ATF base.  Two troops remained in AO Grace op con to 5RAR. Elements remained at the Horseshoe.  One troop supported land clearing ops in Long Green.  One troop Ready Reaction Force standby.  At 2232hrs, 1 Troop were fired on by an unknown number of enemy; fire was returned in the form of 20 pounder canister and machine gun.  A sweep will be conducted next morning.

 

28 November 1969:

B Sqn (-) remains at 1ATF base.  Two troops remained in AO Grace op con to 5RAR. Elements remained at the Horseshoe.  One troop supported land clearing ops in Long Green.  One troop Ready Reaction Force standby. 

 

29 November 1969:

B Sqn (-) remains at 1ATF base.  One troop op con to the land clearing team in Long Green.  Two troops remained in AO Grace op con to 5RAR.  Elements remain [with] mine clearing team. 

 

30 November 1969:

1 December 1969:

B Sqn (-) remains at 1ATF base.  One troop op con to land clearing team in Long Green. One troop remains in AO Grace op con to 5RAR.  One troop returned to 1ATF Base from AO Grace.  Elements remain Horseshoe Hill.  One troop Ready Reaction Force standby. 

 

2 December 1969:

B Sqn (-) remains at 1ATF base.  One troop op con to land clearing team in Long Green. One troop remains in AO Grace op con to 5RAR.  One troop returned to 1ATF Base from AO Grace.  One troop op con 6RAR/NZ (ANZAC) in AO Gulliver.  Elements remain Horseshoe Hill.  One troop Ready Reaction Force standby.
